The Problem

A $60 Billion Market
With No Pricing Standard.

Equities have Bloomberg. Real estate has Zillow. Commodities have S&P indices. Art, the oldest asset class in the world, still relies on subjective opinions, opaque comparisons, and 21‑day turnaround times. Traditional pricing models use metadata alone: artist name, canvas size, auction history. But premiums and discounts are driven by what buyers see and feel. That visual signal has always been invisible to spreadsheets. Until now.

The Precedent

Every opaque market eventually gets its pricing layer.

Bloomberg did it for bonds. S&P for credit. Zillow for real estate. Master Art Index brings that same transformation to real-world assets.

Master Art Index Solution

Built to Think Like
a Senior Appraiser.

Master Art Index doesn’t just crunch numbers. It replicates the logic of expert appraisers, finding comparables, anchoring a baseline, then refining with visual judgment, at machine scale.

Stage 01

The Drafter

Sets a market baseline from structured signals: artist career metrics, physical attributes, sale context, and 20+ data features. This is the spreadsheet logic, essential, but incomplete.

R² at this stage: 79%
Stage 02

The Auditor

Validates the baseline against comparable peer artworks. “Does this price make sense relative to similar works sold in the last 36 months?” Peer group statistics tighten the estimate.

With peer anchoring: 85%
Stage 03

The Expert

This is what makes Master Art Index different. Using image and text embeddings, the model captures what we call “Aesthetic Alpha”, the pricing signal that only a trained eye, or multimodal AI, can detect. It fires only when the baseline misses something.

With visual + semantic intelligence: 90%

Three audiences.

Three layers of intelligence
for institutional decision-making.

01

Classification

Systematic categorization of artworks by style, period, medium, and market segment. Enables portfolio-level analysis and peer comparison across collections.

02

Valuation

Algorithmic pricing with confidence intervals and methodology documentation. Every estimate comes with an auditable trail that satisfies compliance requirements.

03

Risk Layer

Volatility scoring, liquidity assessment, and concentration risk metrics. The missing piece that allows art to function as a true financial asset class.

Visual Intelligence

It Doesn’t Just Read the Data.
It Sees the Painting.

Most art pricing tools analyze metadata, who painted it, how big it is, where it sold. Master Art Index goes further. Our multimodal AI creates a visual fingerprint of each artwork: composition, color palette, style, subject matter. And a semantic fingerprint from its title, description, provenance, and exhibition history.

What Others See

Spreadsheet Logic

Artist name, canvas size, medium, hammer prices. Treats all works by the same artist as roughly equivalent. Cannot explain why two similar canvases differ in price by 3×.

Auction houses profit from opacity, a 27% buyer’s premium depends on pricing uncertainty. The industry’s incumbents have no incentive to build transparent infrastructure.

What Master Art Index Sees

Aesthetic Alpha

Combines market data with what the artwork looks like and what it represents. Captures the pricing signal that only a trained human eye, or multimodal AI, can detect.

Think of it as: how an expert remembers a painting versus how they remember its story. Both matter. Both inform price. Delivered in seconds, not weeks.

“If the model can’t see the painting, it can’t explain why two similar works sell very differently. Our model handles thin-data scenarios through visual + semantic correction.”

Data Architecture

a unified pricing model.

We combine transactional market intelligence with deep visual and semantic analysis to price assets the way institutions require.

Methodology

How it works, in practice.

How is the valuation calculated?

Our three-stage DAE engine (Drafter-Auditor-Expert) combines 20+ structured market features with visual and semantic embeddings. The Drafter sets a market baseline, the Auditor validates against comparable sales, and the Expert applies visual correction for thin-data scenarios. Every valuation includes confidence intervals.

What data sources do you use?

265,000+ structured artwork records spanning 20 years of auction data, private sale comparables, exhibition records, and provenance documentation. Our proprietary dataset , combining market signals with visual fingerprints , is our core competitive moat.

How do you compare to traditional appraisers?

Traditional appraisers achieve roughly 70% accuracy and require 21+ days per valuation. Our repeat-sale model achieves 90% predictive accuracy; our first-sale model (artworks without auction history) reaches 87%, for a blended accuracy of 88% across 830+ artists. Results are delivered in seconds. We complement , not replace , expert judgment by providing a data-driven baseline.

Which artists and asset classes are covered?

Currently 832 artists with deep coverage, scaling to 5,000+ with Series A funding. Starting with fine art, with a second asset class (collectibles, luxury goods) planned. Our architecture is asset-agnostic , the pricing engine applies to any tangible asset with comparable transaction history.

Is the methodology auditable?

Yes. Every valuation produces a documented audit trail with methodology disclosure, comparable selection rationale, and confidence scoring. We are pursuing EY certification to meet institutional compliance standards (banking, insurance, estate).

How do institutions integrate Master Art Index?

Via API for enterprise workflows (risk assessment, claims processing, loan collateralization) or through our mobile platform for individual valuations. The output plugs directly into existing compliance and reporting frameworks used by banks, insurers, and wealth managers.

How do you protect our data?

Data security is foundational to our architecture. All data is encrypted at rest (AES-256) and in transit (TLS 1.3). We follow SOC 2 Type II practices, maintain strict access controls, and never share client data with third parties. Our infrastructure runs on enterprise-grade cloud providers with ISO 27001 certification. For institutional clients, we offer dedicated tenancy options.

What is the pricing model?

We offer tiered access: a free evaluation tier for individual collectors, a professional subscription for advisors and smaller institutions, and custom enterprise contracts for banks, insurers, and auction houses. Enterprise pricing includes API access, SLA guarantees, and dedicated support. Contact us to discuss the plan that fits your needs.
